fluval 304 cleaning

i have a fluval 304 MSF. It has been up and running for 2months now. I need to clean it. I dont know how to proberly clean it. My queston is do one clean the sponge this week, and wait a few weeks then clean the carbon then the bio things, is this a proper way of cleaning so i dont loose all my media at once?

Remove filter from tank into a bucket,take sponges out and just clean one slightly in old tank water, take filter head of and clean and make sure you have unblocked it so it runs at full power, rinse floss in old tank water as well.
