Hi

My filter is being rubbish - any advice would be great!

I have a Fluval 205 canister filter. The flow rate dropped to a trickle so I cleaned it all out (including the inlet/outlet pipes) it improved for about a week now it has dropped off again. It is frustrating and I am just glad that I have an internal filter in there as a backup!

What do you think could be the problem?

Have you got any kinks/loops in the pipelines?

Also, there is an optimum height/level to have these at. Think it is less than 4ft from water surface.. watch the DVD that came with the filter to be sure of this number.

If after cleaning the flow gets better, then i would assume that there is a lot of debris getting sucked into the filter and blocking it. That's what a filter is for :)

The impeller had gotten stuck, I think I might need to replace it. I used to have that trouble with my first internal filter years ago when I had a goldfish. Should have thought of that first I guess!

Thanks for your help.

Cheers for posting your findings, something to remember for the next poor unfortunate victim :)
