Fluval 205 Low Water Pressure

Hi

I recently bought a fluval 205 and installed it, it works ok but the pressure is really low, i.e the water is not coming out as fast as i thought. I think this could be because it inst positioned low enough below my tank, the tank is on the floor in my bedroom, and so the filter is at floor height also.

Anyone know any tricks around this to make it faster.

Seeing no one has replied, and that i have a decent knowledge of water pumps, it may be this.... The setup is not purged enough so the water is trickling through. This is bad as you could cause the motor to burn out. Try tapping the sides moderatly hard, refilling the filter to the top with fish tank water (NOT TAP WATER) or even just checking for blatent defects in the system by opening it up and stripping the filter apart as much as possible without touching screws or forcing anything out. That way, if there is nothing lodged in there, you can still get a refund ;)

i think its because the tnak and pump are at the same height. the pump needs to be below the bottom of the tank to work fully. Baffled me for a while why it works like this as I expected them to work faster when at same height, but they don't.
 
Ye Neo, that was my suspicion, it must use gravity or smt, but surely there is a way round it, some smart alec always comes up with a solution in my experience :) Ill keep my eye out on the net in the mean time...

By having the filter at the same height you reduce the 'hydraulic gradient' which reduces the 'head' of water above the filter, which basically means the inflow is reduced and your filter is effectively having to suck the water out of the tank rather than have the water forced into the filter via water pressure. The pump can therefore only pump what it is being supplied. Thats the theory using hydraulics anyhow!

Lower the filter and you *should* see an improvent

thanks for the input guys, my dad is building me a stand at weekend to put it on and so the filter can go underneath. :)
