Wanted to double check that i have the cleaning routine right for my external filter.

The tank is a 130 litre tank with LF and LR, sand substrate and green polyps, one pusle coral and a feather duster, as well as the usual clean up crew of 1 x cleaner shrimp and about 20 or more hermit crabs.

The filter uses the white bio filters in the top two levels, with 2 small baskets that comprise the lower level filled with carbon filters (2 x small bags). I have just bought some clearmax filters and was wanting to know if i should really be using one carbon bag as well as one clearmax bag, both in the small bottom compartment. The filter used for the main is the standard poly filter type?

I change the carbon filter bag once a month, but wanted to know how i should go about cleaning all the other filters. Especially the main filter as it gets covered in what can only be described as mud/scum. Should i keeping this or should it also be washed away?
