I just need the lights, not the fixture and 24" in length if possible. All I've found so far are way overpriced light fixtures and LEDs which aren't what I'm looking for in the least. It can't be this hard to find basic 24" fluorescent lunar bulbs can it? I've found them in incandescent for $3 so there must be an equivalent somewhere.

If nothing else I might end up having to buy a new fixture just to use incandecents since there's no way I'll pay $100+ on a fixture I don't need for bulbs that are just for show at night on a freshwater tank. When I do a saltwater tank with corals, then it might be feasible.

I don't trust eBay though. It's almost random luck on whether the buyer is honest, a liar or unknowledgable about what they're selling. Maybe a few years ago I would but the number of burns I've heard out number the good deals these days. Too many scammers and misleading people anymore.

Hi..I disagree Teelie. I've had almost 100% success with Ebay and have saved myself literally thousands of dollars. You have to check out each one carefully by feedback and ask others some questions. Of course, nothing is 100%, but, they have some great lunar lighting on there. Don't limit yourself if you don't have access. By the way...I have a bid in on a lunar light as we speak. SH

Oh, I'm not saying it's not worth it to some people, just to me , I'm a bit more paranoid when it comes to purchasing online. :p I may end up having to scour eBay for them but I was hoping for a reputable business that sells them as opposed to a completely unknown source.

Yeah. I went up to my LFS today asked about the lights which they only know of as LEDs. It might be I'll have to get an LED though I did find one for cheap and it's submersible.

Well...I found a website where you can download a DIY manual and even buy the parts if you want to build moonlights. I'm going this route...I'll be able to fit it under my light canopy and probably for less than half the cost. Since you can pick what you mount the LED lights in, you can fit it to your own specs under the canopy. SH

I made my lunar lights. It was quite easy for me but then again if you dont any thing about electronics it would be hard. All I did was bought some blue leds, and wired them to the power supply I had to make the changed the power output to dc and then a reglator to put the power to 5 volts. All it cost me was 10 dollars.

Stepping away from LEDs you can go to a computer store and get cool cath. lights. I find them to be a nice moonlight glow then the led strip but that is just personal perferance also if your going to be buying led strip lighting it is going to be leeps and bounds cheeper at compture shop even futar shop or the walmart computer department carries them. 50 bucks at the LFS or 20 bucks at the LCS.

I've pretty much given up on them and will probably go with incandescent or LEDs. I did find an in-water LED that costs about $20 which should work for my 30 gallon.

Not quite the uniform look I want but it's close enough. I was in Wal-Mart Saturday but didn't see any in my causual look through the store. Where were they located at? I can think off hand in either electronics or their lighting section.

edit: I see you got them in automotive. I'd never have found them there.

If you are handy with electronics and wiring you can get cold cathode components from here American Science & Surplus

You will need the tube & power supply from that page plus a plug in adaptor (also on this website here: Adapters or 9 volt only) so you can plug it into the wall. I am using the 9 volt but you can go up to 12 with that power supply.

Overall I think ebay is cheaper but if you are looking for a reliable company then this is the way to go ... plus they ship fast. There are all kinds of weird/odd/useful things on this site so check it out anyway :D
