Hi all,

Here is a picture of one of my cardinals....he has had a white spot on the tip of his anal fin for about three weeks now....you can see it there in the pic although its not a great picture, as its very hard to catch him on camera as he's so fast!

A week ago I put a dose of Interpet no.8 into the tank, which treats Fin Rot, Fungus and cotton wool growths.

I haven't seen any improvement with it though. The fish seems absolutely fine and is feeding and shoaling etc, its just I'm worried whatever it is will get worse, or spread to the other fish.

Any ideas what it is? Should I re-dose with Interpet no.8 or try something else?

By the way, the details of my tank are:
10gal tank, set up 2 months ago,
6 Cardinals tetras
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate:5ppm
Ph: 7.8ppm

Thanks! :flowers:

It is not fungus or bacteria so you don't need to treat them with anything.
It could be a calcium growth in the fin ray or it could be a virus called lymphocystis, which causes nodular growths on the fins. However, it doesn't look like lymphocystis and if it hasn't changed in the last week then it is probably just a calcium growth in the fin ray. As long as it doesn't get worse then there is nothing to worry about.

Thanks....no it definately hasn't got worse...so thats a relief.

I'll keep a close eye just in case though....

Thanks for the reply! :thanks:
