The ph of my 29 gallon tank fluctuates between water changes. After a 40 percent water change, the ph is about 7.0. Within 7 days the ph drops to about 6.2. The gh is 5 and the kh is 1. My tap water is about 7.2 ph. All fish seem fine .. Stocking is in my sig. All other parameters are fine. Tank has been set up almost 2 years now. Is there anything I should do to adjust ph or should I just leave it alone?
On another note, my 35 gal ph does not fluctuate at all. It has less driftwood compared to the 29 gal tank.
Hi, this happens in my tank too. My tap pH is about 7.4 but the tank is 6.5 so every time I water change I raise the pH slightly but it usually falls again over a couple of days. I think the key here is the kH of 1 - the same as mine. This means there are very few minerals in our tap water and this allows the pH to fall. I did get advised to add some crushed coral to my filter in a media bag as this would help but I tried it for a year and it made no difference what so ever.
With the stock you have though I wouldn't worry too much. Those fish types are from the amazon where the water is very soft and acidic. In many area's they live in a pH of around 5 - sometimes less. You are basicly keeping them as they should be kept and they will do well on it
