Flourish Excel is an alternative to CO2 injection for planted tanks with fairly low lighting, its also useful in killing off certain types of algae.

its made by Seachem and most LFS sell it, alternatively you can get it off mose internet aquarium supply shops too

Does it kill off green algae

Does it kill off green algae

Could you be a little more vague, please. :D

Excel is best against BBA and staghorn, which are both black and closely related to CO2 issues. It can help against other types, but may not kill it completely.

Dave.

The past couple weeks Ive been getting green algea its hard spots that cover the glass.
I've been using a clean sponge with a course side and water changes to try get rid of it

I don't think it'll help directly, as I get small amounts of this on rockwork and use flourish for my plants, but if you have a reasonable number of plants, it might help indirectly. Healthy plants tend to outcompete algae for nutrients, and a moderately or heavier planted tank will often get to a point where you don't notice algae growing.

agreed, it's also worth noting that most fishkeepers just have to accept some level fo algae and some elbow work to get rid of it.

i get a bit of brown diatom algae on my glass, wipe it off with a sponge once a week and it doesn't cause a problem..... there's very few people who have no algae at all.

Definitely. It may be there, and you just don't notice it, too (which IMO is just as good). I see mine at a glance because I know it's there, but it's barely visible. Nobody else sees it unless I point it out, and sometimes not even then.

my ottos eat whats invisible along with shrimps and snails, and i dont get direct sunlight so its good
