I am currently experiencing an unsightly filamentous algae problem in my tank, I have heard flourish excel works well. I was just wondering what your experiences are with it.

I have a 20L(us) Stocking is: 2 blue rams, 2 ottos, and 3 Florida flag fish

Works great. Best if you can spot treat the worst areas of the tank. Works at normal doasge based on the instructions but i have exceeded the recommended dosage with no apparent trouble. Don't use it anymore. no trouble since I inject co2 now.

Much better to combat the algae naturally with making the conditions better for the plants IMO. In other words, increase flow, maximise CO2 and other nutrients, plant heavily and wait.

Excel is a chemical, which may help by giving plants some carbon, but I think it's main affect is as an algacide. I know it harms shrimp, it's clearly not deadly but I doubt it's good for shrimp.

Here's the active ingredient: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glutaraldehyde
