I just started to set up my new tank that im going to have live plants in. Im using florolite red as my substrate and i rinsed it several times. I then added it to the tank and filled the tank with water. But my water is really cloudy. I can maybe see 5 inches into the water. Is this normal and what is the best way to clear it up. I did 2 water changes about 25% each and it cleared it up a little but not alot. It says on the bag it will settle but it really doesnt seem to be settling. Do i just need more time or what can i do to make it clear up.

I also just recently started using flourite (the regular kind) and yes it was a pain in the butt to clean, I had to put it in a bucket and i had to rinse the flourite over 5 times and even after all that rinsing, the water still looked super dark. I then added all 75 lbs. of it to my aquarium and I had to do two 100% water changes (of course with no fish or plants in the tank) before the water looked a bit clear, it was still cloudy and I couldn't even see the back. Then I let it settle and within 2 days the water was cristal clear. I had to change my filter media because so much silt was stuck on the filter pads.

I don't know if that helped but that's my story :p If you have no fish in your tank then I would recommend you try that.

Im suffered from the same problem as both yall, but all i can say is as time goes on, the filter gets it, just give it time.
