Well looks like my guppy is about to give birth, shes saying in the corners of the tank at the top and not moving much, and moves when other fish get near her.
So I think its in a couple-few days.
I was thinking about letting the fry have a chance this time, as my tank is pretty open I have not seen any fry mkae it, they are eaten up pretty fast.

Whats a good floating plant (or something) to give a few fry a hand in surviving my community tank.

Thanks :)

PS. both my females are fancy, the ones that I think is close have a very pretty tail, does this mean the male fry will be (could be) very colorfull as well?

the other female is an orange color with an almost neon orange tail. she gave birth about 2 weeks ago so I have what 2-3 weeks till she does again, but would her fry be colorful much as she is?

The fry tend to hide at the bottom, in bushy plants. It would be more prudent to get java moss or other plants that owuld help with that...

java moss is great for them, about a cup hould do it. accually guppys are quite werid, after birth they drop to the bottom of the tank and hide for about 3 hiours after birth, then they head for the top for a few hours and then tend to wander a bit, after they lern that moma and dady fish = death, then they starte to go back into hideing, they prefer the top but if theres nothing there they will hide at the bottom  good luck

Alot of gupp fry go to the light. So leave the lights off after birth. That way they will go bottom. You can make a screen trap on one end and put a light on that end and they will swim for the light and the other fish can't get to them.

You know what, from what I remember, my guppy fry didn't even hide... They were so big that they couldn't get eaten (in a trap before), though my black skirts sucked on them and crushed their spines without eating them. :/

I second java moss recomendation. As a plus, they also provide food for the fry - you don't have to worry about getting them fed every few hours when they are really small...

See my 15g tank link - tonnes of surviving fry despite presence of many grown up fry in the same tank. They are platies but I suspect they are very similar to guppies...

I just put my female in a baby net and let her have her fry. It was not too stress full on her, and i have all the tiny fry in one spot. This worked for me because I have 4 Pictus catfish in the tank too so the fry dont make it without a barier.

I have about 50-60 guppy fry in various stages of development (more everyday) in my 29 gallon. They live with 2 females guppies(recently impregnated by a now deceased male), 2 yoyo loaches, a pleco , and 10 white clouds. They don't even try to hide although I do have floating plants including duckweed in the tank....They don't stay in there long. Once they grow for a few days they come out of the plants and swim around with the other fish. Time to get another tank! :hey:
