Floating Guppy

Hi there,

I have a problem with 1 of my female guppys, she is floating around the top of the tank in 1 corner, she has been there all day. What could this be?

My tank is a 30L tank with 2 male and 4 female guppys

She could be pregnant, they tend to become less active as they are about ready to give birth.

Oh and sit around the top aswell

Thank you thats what i thought, she also seems to be very bloated so will have to keep an eye on her.

Yeah a picture would be good, my female guppies tend become less active and near the top of the tank when they are about to have some babies. I would keep a close eye on her scales, if they are sticking out like a pinecone (easier to see from above) then we have a problem called dropsy!

Agreed with squeeky jane, get one side view and one like birdeye view or basicaly looking right down onto her

No need for anymore help or pictures as when i woke up this morning i found her floating upside down at the top of the tank dead. I have been having a few problems with ending up dead all from the same supplyer so will be putting a complaint into them tomorrow.

If that's the case, I'd be questioning your ammonia levels.

What are your stats for this tank?

Check your levels
i had this ame problem and i had too hard water for the guppies and it killed them off

Yeah it is probably ammonia poisoning.

I have just checked my amonia level and it is between 0 an 0.5. I do live in a hard water area but was told by the aquatics shop that this shouldnt be a problem.

Any ammonia level above 0 is a problem.

You should do a large water change immediately.

I actually have had this happen thi week... She ended up dying. She was anti-social, and didn't look so good. She never wanted to swim. RIP Little Green Guppy!!!!
