I bought a large piece of driftwood from the LFS for my father's tank. After soaking it for 24 hours, it still floats. We are now soaking it in the bathroom overnight, tonight. Could they have given me the wrong driftwood? This is attacked to a piece of slate on the bottom, and it still floats strongly. I first thought that it was treated, so it would sink, then I though 1 day of soaking would be enough...too bad...I have to leave before I can attach anubias and java moss to it...poor guy will have to do it himself. Should I have him return it if it doesn't sink by tommmorrow???

Bogwood sinks automatically. Driftwood would not drift if it sank. It tends to float so you need to weight it down while you sink it as you will most woods.

most wood can take weeks before it sinks completely. It just takes time for all the air in the wood to come out. Then the wood becomes waterlogged and sinks. Put the wood in a bucket of water outside and leave it there until it no longer floats. Then put it in the tank and attach the plants.

The air will come out much quicker if it is not in contact with the air i.e. floating on the surface hence why I would weight it down!!!
