I have had a very bad problem with whitespot which I have finally managed to resolve..... no spots for three weeks. I had the tank temp at 30 and reduced it to 27 over 24 hours - was that too fast?

On Saturday I noticed that one of my plecs has torn fins which I have been treating with Melafix since Sunday. The cause of the torn fins was another plec which I have rehomed in a relatives tank.

Tonight I have noticed that 2 fish (1 silver shark and 1 ram) have been flicking. There are no outward signs of illness, no laboured breathing, no rapid gill movement, nothing at all.

Stats are as follows
nitrite 0
ammonia 0
nitrate 20
ph 7

Should I be worried, will this lead to something bad?

Thanks.

Have you done a water change.
Could also be the melafix irratating them abit.

I change 25-30% of the water once a week. Last change was Friday.

I noticed the flicking right after I put the Melafix in.

Just keep an eye on them, sounds like the melafix they will get used to it.

:hyper: Lol board playing up.

My L333 died this afternoon. No outward signs of illness - this was not the one with torn fins - he appeared fine yesterday. Gutted.

The flicking has stopped. I think it was the Melafix.

You could try raising the temperature a little some parasites cannot survive higher temperatures and the whitespots cycle will speed up allowing the medication to kill them when they are free swimming. I treat plecs like loaches when medicating using half the recomended dose. :good:
