I posted this in the general discussion section and didn't get any responses, but as another guppy is on it's way out now is appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

hi soybean
just read your last post
i lost quite a few fish years back when i was just starting out
and it was high ammonia in water causing the problems from over feeding
you said you did 75% water change where the water tests done after
are the fish flicking spiraling and finding it hard to swim
keep check on water do a test before water change
hope you get the problem sorted

Hi, thanks for reply.

I'm not just starting out with a tank, I've had fish for years.

I have been testing the water daily, always before changes, and doing large water changes every other day since that first death started to look like an infection.

Results for am and nitrite always 0, nitrates never too high.

I feed lightly, 5 days out of 7.

They're not spiraling. They flick against plants and hide a lot, then lose the ability to swim. Another guppy seems inflicted now and his tail has started to disintergrate. I only did a large water change yesterday.

So far it's the gups and neons being affected only.

I have started treating with a broad spectrum med, I don't have carbon in the filter.

Confused about what's continuing to get them...

Hi
Flicking can be a sign of white spot (ich) and the fish generally start flicking before the spots come out. It is only treatable when the parasite is in the free-swimming stage of its life cycle which is shorter the higher the temp is. I combined a white spot treatment with raising the temp of the tank by a degree which worked well when our pictus was covered in white spot. We have not had it since and pictus is thriving. :good:
