you need to seperate the fish really if possible, that's the best way to stop it spreading.
Not sure if salt will help much, but you could put some in, mine recommends 1 tbsp of aquarium salt to every 19 litres, you can't use normal table salt. :good:

Unfortunatly i dont have another tank so can't really separate, the mollie i have is the worsed my fighter isn't looking to bad at the moment tho edge of finns are going a little pail all others still look ok. i know you said i can't use normal table salt but does that apply to the rock sea salt? just cos thats all i have in at the moment n thought it was a bit different to the usual table salt. just thought it might be good to releve a bit of stress. what about plants should i take em out and do a big water change?

Thanks for the advice n sorry if my reply sounds a bit challenging i don't mean it to sound bad just i love my fish especually my fighter n i'M getting stressed really dont want to loose em! x

yeah above anything else I'd keep your water crystal clean, maybe daily water changes until you can get meds, some people claim to have cured columnaris on clean water alone, i believe rock salt is meant to be ok, but i'd post another topic up asking about rock salt and hopefully someone that is certain will know!
I'd leave the plants they should be fine.....what size is your tank and what fish do you have in all?

Also can you post your water stats, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate if possible?

to be honest i am really new to this n my daughters dad gave me a tank that he had had beffore getting a bigger one as my daughter was wittering for fish at home i evencually said ok n he set the temp up and told me to put water in it n turn on the filter and heater leave it for about a day or to then go get some fish. I didn't really want fish but i'v got to love em. i didn't know anything about tropicals before then to the point i just added tap water not knowing anythig about the conditioner your ment to put in n the pet shops don't seam to give any advice thats right. Idont have a thermomiter in tank n dont have a clue how to check the other things. the tank has now been set up for abut 5 months and have had some probs with fish not mixing and killing eachother. i do still have some fish that shouldnt be mixed that have survived but cant afford another tank i'v asked her dad for advice but he's pretty uselss. so anyway as u asked i'v got:

1 male fighter
1 femail fighter (femail killed a mail fighter in past but seams to be ok with this one tho i know not ideal)
3 golden barbs ( i now know these are fin nippers i started with one and told by pet shop i needed a min of 2 more so they can play together and they will stop nippin)
1 dalmation mollie
2 yellow mollies
1 plec
1 orange fish with black finns?
1male and a femail guppy

After finding out more about how to keep them i think my tank is really alot overfilled! dont know what it is but it's not big i would say an average sized small aquarium if that helps? i'v asked what size it is n all get off him is "i dont know i think its a bit smaller than my other one"
which i think is a 2 gallon but not sure.

ummm ok there's a few things already wrong here, male and female fighters are not kept together unless for breeding, as you found out before one will eventually turn and kill or badly injure the other.
2 gallons is VERY small for what you have there, I have a 3.4 gallon tank which I'd never keep more than about 5 guppies in or one male fighter.
If you can measure the tank with a ruler or tapemeasure there is an aquarium calculator on this site which will work out your tank size for you.
I'm thinking your tank must be bigger than 2 gallons because you'd see there wasn't enough water for fish in it.
Barbs are nippy fish regardless of numbers and are not good betta friends, what sort of pleco is it?
Mollies and bettas are ok, guppies are not normally advised bcause bettas can mistake them for rival and injure them also but if you've had no trouble there, then that may not be an issue.

If your tank is overstocked which it seems is likely, it will only cause ongoing problems with disease, you need to rehome some of these fish, the male and female betta need to be seperated, maybe get them a new home each, if you're short on money tupperware tubs can make good temporary homes, i've seen people on here using them.

Do you have any way of getting a picture of your setup up?

I'll try getting a pic tho not sure how to do it only got cam on phone.

In that size tank you will never be able to stop it spreading. Seperate them all into tupperware containers or whatever you have handy, and do 100% water changes every day. I would say to leave the plec in the 2 gallon.

Get a larger tank then you have for sure. I am surprised they have not all killed each other by now. Male and female fighters need to be seperate unless breeding.

as loose guidelines tanks should only have 1inch of fish for every 1 gallon, to give you a rough idea

Just done the calculation for my tank n it says 48 leters/11 gallons tho mayby slightly less cos the back corners are angled so it's not completly square. will all fish be ok just in tuppawear tub's i dont have any other heaters?

the move will stress the fish, you'd have to get a large tank immediately and frankly I think you need a better plan before doing this...go on tropical fish emergencies and explain the situation and the proposed solution there to get help with making it work

it depends on what sort of pleco you have still, I don't think you are as drastically over stocked as first thought, but I do still think you're over, the fish will need heat so if you've no way of heating I doubt there is much option but to keep them together, can you get out to anywhere today to buy anything?
I think larger establishments will be open today, like garden centres, pets at home....etc.
