So, the topic sounds stupid but...

...I have a heavily planted 10gal that I have stocked with about 15 cherries and three amanos. I really like interesting fish with personality. I've kept angels, gouramis, kribensis, severums, bettas, and cories that I really liked. They all have behavior that is pretty interesting. The problem that I've run into is this: All of the small fish that are shrimp-friendly seem to be the "torpedo" shaped idiotfish like danios and neons. I'm looking for a small interesting fish for my 10 gal. The coolest ones seem to be "flat" fish or at least taller fish.

I've looked into Scarlet Badis (dario dario), but I can't decipher if they're okay for shrimp or not. And I've looked into Apistogramma borellii, also with mixed info...

Does anyone have reccomendations?

Well, at the risk of sounding like a broken record on these fora, I'd recommend Rainbows. They love a planted tank, but won't eat the plants. They look amazing when in a group. The have character and are more than the usual. There are lots of varieties, my favs at the mo are dwarf rainbows, but there's a nice variety so you are bound to find something that suits your set up and tastes.

Not in a 10gallon :/
I would say a shoal of about 8 harlequins, they are hardy, pretty, active and fun to watch and colours will go nice with your shrimp

MM you are absolutely right. I can't believe I missed that.

Some of the blue-eyed species of rainbows would be fine in a 10 gallon. They are just hard to come buy, and also IMO they aren't totally shrimp safe. They won't bother adults, but will eat babies and juvinials. if they find them. The threadfin rainbow would be your safest bet, IMO these fish almost appear to be two demensinal. They also have very interesting displayes. Dario Dario are very cute fish, but they are a pain to keep alive and can be quite aggresive towards each other.

I posted on another forum and found out that scarlet badis are way in the clear for shrimp. I've got my ear to the ground to get a few of those.

Thanks for the help.
