Fizz Factory

That looks like it works the same as a DIY CO2 setup. The tablet is probably made of yeast and sugar. Sorry no experience with this unit though.

No I have not tried this, but I think I can safely say you should save your money and spend it elsewhere.

What will they think of next!!! A DIY sugar and yeast unit would probably be 10 times more effective.

Thanks for the advice. I ended up getting the Nutrafin kit. Despite everyone saying that the included packets are worthless I tried it right away. It took about 36 hours for bubbles to start forming consistently at a rate of 5-6 a minute. That seems pretty low. I haven't been able to find anywhere what a good bubble rate is.

Thanks,
Karl

PS - I plan to make my own mixture, so please don't tell me that. :)

The required bubble rate depends on size of the tank, the bigger the tank the higher the bubble rate you need :)

How big is your tank?

Sam

I reckon you'll need a bubble rate of 1 every 1 to 2 seconds for a tank that size.

FizzFactory_resize.jpgThe Fizz Factory uses a rectangular plastic 'bin' with an open bottom. The co2, which is the same as a DIY concoction leaves its container through airline tubing and ends up in the 'holding bin'. Visibly, it looks as if the holding bin is full of air....... (see low quality pic)

Within about 24 hours, the 'bin' has much less co2 in it than when it started. This seems to be an ineffective way of releasing co2 into the tank.
So I have one of these in a 10g tank. The manufacturer's directions indicate to use one or two of their tabs weekly, and that the co2 will slowly "seep" into the water.

I guess my question is, is this system ok for use in a 10g? If and when I upgrade to a larger tank, I will use a better system.
Part 2 of my question would be if there are any ways to manufacture a DIY diffuser, as I have been unable to locate them anywhere near me. Worst case scenario, I'll buy one off the ol' intranet, but I'd prefer to either make one myself, or purchase one somewhere where I can see an actual human being.

cheers.

so I just bought two of these things - one for my 30G and one for my 55G. They're very very simple, but the CO2 dissolves out of the box pretty quick in bigger tanks and needs to be refilled frequently - 2x/day for the 30G and 3x/day for the 55G.

It's a nice setup, but I think the fizzy tabs are going to get expensive after a while and I'll have to switch to a DIY system.

Sorry to hijack a thread, but I have a question about the Nutrafin system. It says it is made for up to 20gl, but is there a way to make it usable for a 30gl? Would you have to increase the bubble rate, as stated?

I'm not really sure what determines the bubble rate. The container it comes with is kinda small, maybe just 1L. Does the recipe or quality of the yeast make a difference in bubble rate? Would using a 2L bottle increase the bubble rate?

Karl

using a 2 litre bottle and a larger mix of yeast/sugar will give you a greater yield of co2,
