I'm going away for a month this Christmas, and although I've got someone to housesit for me and feed cats/fish etc, I'm a bit worried about leaving the fish for a month with them as they've never looked after fish.

Is there anyone who would consider coming over once or twice a week to check water parameters, do water changes (with Python, easy-peasy) and generally check on my lil' fishy babies?

Will happily pay for petrol, time and beer!! :p

I am too far away to do the fish sitting, sorry. but just send on over the beer! :drink:

The reason I am replying really is cos you say you have a python......I have been told that they are not available in the UK and if they were they wouldn't fit our taps  :/

Where did you get it and is it any good cos I'd rip someones arm off for one if they are anything as good as what some Americans have said they are. :p A water change on my big tank is a lot of buckets!!

Chook, dunno about the plane fare but we could do a house swap - I'm off to Taree for Christmas, a bit further up the coast from you! Fancy a snowy Christmas in lovely Grantham?!?!?!

Cava - I got the Python from Animal House - they are pretty darn good! You do have to have the cold water tap on full blast to get good suction, but vacuuming the gravel and syphoning water out is easy enough, and then refilling is a matter of flipping a switch, adding the declorinator and sitting on the sofa keeping an eye on the tank. Cool huh??? The connector fitted okay, I put some plumbers tape round it before screwing it in and I'm leaving it on the kitchen tap, and just screwing on the python pump once a week - I thought that was best as the adaptor is only plastic screwing into a metal thread on the tap, so if you cross thread it you'll bugger it up. But someone on here in the DIY section said you can buy these pumps from beds shops (apparently they're the same ones used to empty/fill waterbeds!) so I'm sure a spare adaptor or pump is easily enough available. The only downside to a Python would be if you're on a water meter cos you would be using a fair amount of water. Sure you don't wanna fish sit and 'try before you buy'?? ;)

Unfortunately Grantham is a little too far for me too help out. Have you thought of asking your LFS? I know our local independant offers a reliable fish sitting service (I might yet have to take them up on it lol!)

yea call up your lfs and if they dont do it get a kid from there to go there and pay him what ever you think is apropriate for that month.
