Hi, I hope this is the right place for this post, I couldn't decide.

I messed up by doing a fish in cycle, ich started and spread, and now i have no fish.

So my situation is that my tank will be 3 weeks old this friday, which means it should have been coming close to the end of the cycle theoretically. Now there's no fish in it though, so no more ammonia, nitrate supply to keep bacteria alive (this is correct thinking right? the biofilter needs constant food or it will die off). I would research fishless cycling and pick that up where i am leaving off, or even just a get a few fish since the cycle should be nearing completion and levels shouldn't be too bad. However at the end of next week, is my spring break Feb 28th to march 8th. During this time I have to take the tank home with me because we have to have everything unplugged during break.

So my question is what should I do so I don't have to go through another cycling process after spring break. For the tiime being I dumped some flake food in the tank hoping it will create ammonia and keep the bio filter alive.

Have a look at the article I wrote for just the situation where a tank move is nessisary. Just follow as per for an established set-up, only ignoring the bits about catching and bagging fish :good: I'd continue with a fishless cycle, rather than a fish-in one if it diden't complete also. Liquid ammonia is best, though fish food can work, you just don't have as much control and it makes a lot of mess...

Nice article! I noticed a few typos if you care:
"bacteria and force you into a finish-in cycle crazy.gif"
"After partially filling, add your plans, as it usually makes..."

What exactly are you referring to as a container? i didn't get that part (just out of curiousity, i know it doesn't apply to my situation

so what does this mean i should do with my tank to keep the bacteria alive? Just add ammonia like in a fishless cycle (in the specified amounts) till I am ready to get fish, and the levels are zero?

Thanks

 Old article, I thought I had all the typos....

A container would be pertty much anything used to hold water, tupper wear boxes, polestiren (spelling?) boxes, food coolers e.t.c :good: That I should probibly clear up a little...

That's the one :good: I'd wait untill you move back again before you get any fish though, just to avoid the stress of being moved soon after settleing in...
