When doing fishless cycling what is required in the tank to actually do it, for example the filter and what else. Just curious.

just a running filter.

You can have lights and heater too but they are not required at this point as the bacteria will settle and multiply in the filter media.

it is also safe to add plants if you want to.

but i notice you already a 30 gallo setup

you can just take part of the media from that filter and put it in your new tank and it will be cycled instantly. you can already add the fish (you have to add fish right away actually)

No one ever reads it lol, I need to make it bigger.. It says planned list.

oops.... :p

ok
well just get the filter running for now and add ammonia and monitor it until your tank is cycling then add all your fish!

One more thing how long should it take to cycle the tank. And also where is the link that shows the instructions.

Where can i get the Ammonia I need for it? Grocery store or a Drug store maybe?

That's always an issue
Where I live, in Quebec, i couldn't find any ammonia.

Try drugstores and hardware stores along with the grocery stores

I found ammonia but it doesn't have a percentage on it.. But the contents are ammonia, surfactant opacifier and Clarifying agent. So if I had to guess I would assume its 100%. Im not sure.

Okay that has ingredients that won't work I found another that is just Ammonia and Deionizied water. So will that work?

id be cautious using the ammonia with surfactants in it - they can be toxic to aquatic life in sufficient concentrations, and even lower conc's won't do them any good i wouldnt have thought... surfactants are present in a lot of soaps, detergents, paints and other solvents and are an environmental hazard when they enter watercourses in wastewater.

the only place i managed to find pure ammonia was a local hardware store, sold as a cleaning solution

Yah I noticed that but I just found another that has ammonia and Deionized water. Also I dechlorinated the water which it said not to but I didn't notice that is there anything I can do besides emptying the tank.

sorry, your reply appeared as i was typing mine so i didnt see it  the one you've found is the stuff you want :D

StarOrbs, youwant to declorinate the water. Otherwise the bacteria can't grow.
