Hi there,

Just wondering... If I were to use the tank water from an established tank and a HOB filter from that same established tank.... Would this mean that the cycling time for a new tank of a lesser size would be under a week. I'd still test the water before adding any fish, and relevent fishless cycle tests. Am just wondering. The new tank would have an internal filter that I'd run in conjunction with the HOB filter, and everything else would be new bar the tank water from an established tank and the HOB filter from the established tank.

Any ideas about an approximate time it would take?

Dan

there is nothing good kept in water so not really worth worrying about that, cant really comment on the HOB filter, never used one. gluck

If the HOB filter is mature then it will reduce your cycling time dramaticly if that is the only filter you are using. If not then use the filter media from the old filter in the new one. The water will make hardly any difference as the bacteria we need live in the filter media & not in the tank water itself.

Thanks! I'll do that, and keep vigilant with my test kit until it's fully cycled.
