Hello all,

I am glad to announce that I've set up a lovely little aquarium at the office which I am fishless cycling currently. But it occurred to me - as the bb colony develops I would normally dose it with ammonia every day. However, I am out of the office on Sat and Sun.

Any creative solutions to this dilemna?

Thanks!

It's the filters you are cycling, so why not take the filters home with you for the weekend and keep feeding them ammonia in a fish safe bucket?

Your bacteria won't die over the weekend. Not from lack of ammonia anyway. Now if the power goes off and the filters go dry then you will lose some bacteria. Just dose your ammonia on Friday as you leave and then Monday when you get back. If you were terribly concerned you could add some fish food on Thursday and by Saturday it will be breaking down into ammonia to feed that bacteria. In my experience fish food takes 2 days to start making ammonia and 5-7 days to fully break down and not give off any more ammonia.

Both great replies and either will allow me to solve my dilemna. Thanks both!

4seasons, your advice re: no need to feed bacteria over the weekend is supported by Dr. Tim:
