Hi all, I had started fishless cycling in my 29 g tank on last monday......i mistakenly put more ammonia ( instead of recommended 5 ppm, it was more than 8 ppm ).... i haven't added any ammonia after that.....now it's almost a week and my ammonia reading doesn't want to come down at all....it still shows more than 8 ppm and there is no/very little trace of nitrite..... what should i do now?? should i wait one more week.....or do water change.......any help will be greatly appreciated....btw, i couldn't get media from any established tank...does adding bio-spira help in anyways....
thanks

You really need to do some water changes to bring things back down to 5ppm. Having too high an ammonia reading has been shown to limit bacterial growth under sertain conditions. Once youre back to 5ppm just leave things and test your ammonia level daily. Eventually the ammonia will drop to 0ppm. At this point raise it back to 5ppm with more ammonia and then test daily etc. etc. Good luck
