Its been just over 2 weeks since I started cycling, got a 28L tank. Started by taking the ammonia up to betweem 4-5ppm, waiting until it dropped and I measured for nitrates while keeping topping my ammonia back upto 4ppm.

Had my nitrate spike to over what I could read on the test kit, that dropped. Just did a check on all and these are the current readings (Have done a couple of small water changes over the couple of weeks)

Ammonia - 2ppm

Nitrite - 2ppm

Nitrate - 20ppm

What do you mean by doing "larger cycles"? :)

I was wondering what Cameron meant too, it makes no sense. I'm suspecting you meant nitrites, as nitrates shouldn't be dropping. If your nitrates are going off the scale, its a good idea to do a big water change, but other than that all seems well.

You only need to redose ammonia when it gets down to zero, and no more than once in a 24 hour period. Have you had a zero on ammonia yet?

Oops, my bad, Yeah I meant Nitrites sorry :p Yeah, I've had zero on that :)

All is going well then. I'd recommend if you haven't already to half your dose of ammonia until you see a zero on nitrite, as it'll give the bacteria a chance to catch up.

Will do, thank you :)
