Posted this in the fishless cycling thread but i've had no answer and i need to get an answer fairly quickly!

I'm at the stage where my ammonia is down to 0ppm in < 12 hours - according to the thread i have enough bacteria to break down the Ammonia into Nitrite, but i need to keep feeding it. Do i only add 4ppm once every 24 hours, or carry on adding ammonia whenever it reaches 0ppm (hence about twice every 24 hours)?

Thanks!

Jonno.

i have just finshed my cycle i was testing 2 times a day (8-14 hour gap) and dosing ammonia each time after the ammonia was dropping to 0 in under 12 hours what took about 7-8 days to happen then it took another 17-18 days till the nitrite droped its a good idea to keep an eye on the ph levels too

I have been trying a new method of cycling by adding ammonia only once a day, even if it drops to zero in 12 hours. So far, everything has gone fine. After 2 weeks, the tank is processing 3 to 4 ppm of ammonia to zero ammonia and nitrite in about 12 hours. I don't thinkg there is any significant bacteria lose in a 10 to 12 hour period so feeding once a day seems to be fine. It also keeps the nitrite spike from getting so large and taking so long.
