my fishless cycle is now complete my stats are ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 60 so do i really need to do a 90% water change as my water is clear and i have no algea growing anywhere and my nitrate is not terribly high would i be ok with say a 30-50%

I thought it was a 40% water change. then test a couple of hours later, nitrate a reading above 50 want's fetching down.
Whats your tap nitrate reading.

its only that high because im at the end of my fishless cycle and havnt touched the water yet so it would go that high just didnt think i would need to change that much water

I know it's high because of the fishless cycle, just wanted to know your tap nitrate, as that should tell you what your nitrate reading should be in the tank.
If you have a tap nitrate reading of 0 which is quite rare, you will panick thinking the tank hasn't cycled.

I had some problems after doing the big water change at the end of my fishless cycle.

Tap nitrate is 20'ish, and tank was 80+ at end of cycle...did an 80% change and tested next day before we went out fish shopping, and nitrate was still 60....so did another 50% change...had to add some ammonia now to prevent the bacteria dieing off...next day nitrate was down to 40 but nitrite had risen to 2!....

my tap nitrate is less than 10 so i think ill do 30% water change how does this sound

I would go with a 50%.
