Hello everybody. I'm fishless cycling my 10 gallon tank currently and I have a few questions. Lets say I began dosing ammonia at 4ppm. Than after the Nitrite spike I was dosing at 2ppm. Now lets say that Nitrite is going down to 0ppm within 12 hours of dosing the 2ppm of ammonia. Now I have to ease back into 4ppm, so I dose 3ppm now. Lets say when I check the water in twelve hours there is no ammonia but there is nitrite. Do I dose 3ppm again or do I wait for the Nitrite to go down too?

Thank you all for your help, and sorry if this was a little bit confusing. :D

You should be dosing at 24 hour intervals and testing at 12. Thus normally if you have been able to remove 2ppm or both Ammonia and Nitrite in 12 hours you would expect to be able to get shot of 4ppm in 24h...If you suffer a bit of a stall look to your Nitrates and consider a big water change to bring them down if they are high (say greater than 100 ppm).

regards

Miles

Thanks so much. I feel so much better now. The goal is getting 4ppm of ammonia into Nitrate in 24 hours, right? Thanks for the help :D.

That's your first goal, the second is to do it it 12 hours, and finally to do it in 12 hours for 7 days on the trot.

Does that make sense ?

Yep :). I have been doing research and actually started it. I'm still on phase 1 though.

Thanks for your help :)
