First off let me say this will be the fourth time I used the fishless cycle...... :D

I have never had this problem, I think I know where I went wrong...

My 10 gallon is in its 22nd day of a fishless cycle.

My ammonia spike @ 8.0
Nitrite started to show up, my ammonia dropped to 4.0 as nitrite was going into a spike.

Let me say now that I think back I may have been over doing it a little with ammonia. ;)

Yesterday ammonia was still at 4.0 and nitrite is was at 5.0

Today ammonia still at 4.0, nitrite at 0

I had no loss of pwer, and heater is working properly.

I think I just had too much ammonia in tank and nitrite and nitrates colonies grew, but y the ammonia

Help..........

also no ammonia in tap

Interesting ... I don't know ... I'm using the fish method  ... bad deal ... I'll never use it again :D

Perhaps the bacteria that convert ammonia are taking a break ?? -_- Maybe in the middle of a cell cycle ?? Just a wild guess ...

I've noticed my ammonia levels so far have gone up and leveled off before going up again ( 2.0 ppm at three weeks in 20 gallon .. 15 gallons of water .. about 5 inches of fish ) ... I also recorded some nitrites and nitrates very early on .. but nitrites have been steady 0.25 for most of three weeks so far ... I recoreded 0.25 ppm Ammonia in the first 24 hours ... Nitrates about 2-3 ppm at three weeks. So at least in my case I don't really see a clear spike pattern so far for Ammonia and Nitrites.

Good Day ... B)

What is your nitrate at?

I had this problem when I was cycling....ammo wouldn't go away but everything else dropped.....it is something to do with high nitrates inhibiting the bacteria that convert the ammonia.....so you may get 0 nitrates but still all the ammo isn't being used up...

Make sense?

check your nitrates....if they are really high do a large water change....

If not....then I am not sure....

Thats kinda what I am thinking. I did a 30 percent water change (would have done more but did not feel like moving heater) also I did not add anymore ammon, I will do water test when I get in from work

Anymore thoeries?
