hi
approx 2 weeks ago started a fishless cycle on our new little 7 gal tank (going to use it for fry) i started it with some gravel & plants from our established tank & also ran the fluval one filter in our main tank for a couple of weeks to get some bacteria in the filter media.
i have been using pure ammonia for the cycle & all seemed to be going as it should until today, my nitrites have dropped from 5 last friday to 0.25 today ?? can that be right, it seems to have dropped very quickly, ammonia has been 0 to a trace for the past few days. im just surprised that the nitrite has dropped down like this i thought it would take several days.
can anyone help, we did a fishless cycle on our main tank but that was over 3 1/2 yrs ago & i cant remember how it went.
thanks

It's probably because you ran the filter in your established tank, so a load of bacteria was probably present from the start and has speeded things up nicely.
