My pintail tuxedo wag platy gave birth a few weeks ago. I had managed to keep 25 of her fry. I had to go away for work on the weekend and left them with an auto-feeder. I figured they would be safer with that than with the BF who tends to have a heavy hand when it comes to fish food. Anyways, I come home yesterday to discover that 22 of the babies had died
And the bigger of the batch were still alive. Which caused me to come to the conclusion that I didn't grind up the food enough and they either starved to death or ate the big food and it got stuck inside them......
I guess I never expect to raise all fry up to adulthood as I would never had the space but the LFS was prepared to buy the babies off me once they were big enough. Now I can see that from the looks of the 3 remaining ones now that only one is going to have a pintail, though its hard to tell with the others since the one with the obvious pintail has black fins and tails.
The guppy fry, swordy fry and all other fish were fine and the water tested fine hence telling me my theory about food being too big was the cause of their demise.
Bye bye little babies
