I went on a road trip today to buy some new fish....all african cichlids
It was a 2 hour drive either way (not including me getting lost on the way there)
I ended up with
15 Labidochromis hongi
6 red empress
6 Copadichromis kadango red
Yes its a lot of fish but I have had issues with my yellow labs lately and with my peacock killing off a lot of other fish. That is all sorted now
The guy I bought the fish from has fry of all different ages from about 10 species of fish. He has approx 30 tanks, a lot of them breeding tanks but about 4 as display tanks. I spent most of my time looking at his tanks while he caught the fish for me
One idea I picked up from him was how he separates the newborn fry from the adults without putting them in a new tank. When he strips the fry from the mother he puts them into a contraption which is basically an ice cream container, with panels cut out of all 4 sides, and the bottom. The panels all have flyscreen attached with silicon (to the outside so the adult fish can't push it in).....he has a few of these in each of his adult tanks. In each of these he sits an airstone. It has given me idea for my fry
In a few weeks time he says he will have some frontosa which I may or may not be interested in. They are expensive fish
($80 each)
All the fish I got today cost me $100
