Hi people, ive posted a few times about my various diseases lately on this site but after all the advice ive had off members im still in the same situation(but thanks anyway people)!! I have a 40 u.k gallon tank, nitrate is 0,nitrite is 0,p.h is 6.8 its been up and running for over 6 months now.Im using a Fluval 4 and Fluval 2 for filtering and temp is maintained at 24oC.It houses small to medium community fish,i had a columnaris problem a few months ago which i bought Interpet No 9 for, then a few weeks after noticed that some of them had red gills and swollen abdomen with bloody vain type things showing underneath so i bought a King British Internal Bacteria med.i carried on doing my weekly maintainance and giving my meds with a little tonic salt and there all still dying....there just not showing any signs of improvement at all...ive now seen 1 of my lemon tetras with a gaping hole in its side which is red an inflammed...just dont know what to try next  Ive prob lost around 10 fish in 6-8 weeks which all showed the signs of septicimia.Does anybody think it would be a good idea to strip my tank, disinfectant anything and start again? Btw im using Waterlife Myxazin at the moment. Thanks in advance

What is your water change regime, tap water parameters, water conditioner and full fish & rough plant list please?

Do you have any plug in air fresheners or use polish in the room or nearby in the house?

hi there,i change 25% of water at least once or week,i use Nutrafin Aqua plus water conditioner and Nutrafin Plant gro,i house 6 Neons,4 Lemon Tetras,4 Pristella Tetras,6 Corys,7 Zebra Danios,4 Harlequins,5 Rummy Nose Tetras and 8 Glowlight tetras yes i know it is slighty overstocked but im waiting for my 55 gallon to cycle,no plug in air freshners, sprays or polish is used in or near my tank(s)

Nitrate at 0 in a planted tank?
How much of the substrate do you vac at each change & what are the tapwater parameters please. What dose rate do you use for the aqua+?

well saying 0 for my nitrate it has a little trace in it which is so low it isnt shown on the test kit,the tap water parameters im clueless to as i dont have a test kit for that.all i know is its zero nitrate and i have 2 other tanks set up using the same water and have no probs what so ever in them! I vacuum all the gravel including plants and decor at least once a week with my water change.I use the aqua plus at 1 cap full per 15 u.k gallon,oh and my tank has Cabomba Aquatica,Elodea Densa,Wisteria and Hygrophilia Polysperma which are all growing rapidly

Like to look at your ammonia test and nitrite readings as red gills can be due to poor water quality and gill flukes, wondering if you have a parasite in the tank which has caused bacterial problems on top.

checked them this morning and NitrIte is 0,ive had some neons for over a year and they have always had red gills,Im halfway through my course of Myzaxin,so will just have to see how it goes....failing that im gonna strip the tank and disinfectant everything and start again

ive noticed that the Danios all go blood red in the gill area before they die and my Glowlight tets went really swollen and lost all there colours almost turning white underneath

I say you have a parasite and on the other post you made laying to one side can be a sign of parasites, you will need a fluke med.

Look under gill flukes.

Have the fish been losing weight.

thanks for that will have to wait till Monday though cos im gonna finish my Myxazin course first, may aswell seeing as im halfway through it now,yes the fish have been losing weight they go painfully thin even though there eating until the night before they die

Flukes are nasty and do alot of damage and it sounds like your tank is infested with them, plus the med won't cure bacterial problems while the parasite is still doing it worse.

Look at flukes.

would you say that the inflamed red gaping hole is an ulcer? If so then this would again be a bacterial infection according to a book i have.

I have used a Gill fluke med in the last few months,i used Sterazin for 10 days and again they showed no sign of change thats why i changed to a bacteria med then used Protozin for 2 weeks then again used a bacteria med for a further 2 weeks so i guess ive tryed everything...well almost
