Yep! I'm glad you persuaded me I need them to do a book made our of pictures for my Uni interview.

LR and sand is in! Loads of hitchikers! Green star polyps, snail, sponges, clove polyps, hermit crabs. They were all on the rock when I got it and now 15 minutes later its in my tank! Just waiting for it to settle so I can show you all what I've got

I can't get a photo of a snail I have. It hides in the day but I can describe it Its black and is mostly on the rock. Not a fan of the sand. I also have a star fish which is about 1cm in diameter with 5 fingers. its white. Will get those pics up now

Hi all,

Just aq quick update:

I have done some tests on the water and this is what I got-

Ammonia - 0.6
Nitrite - 0.1
Nitrate - 10
SG - 1.024
pH - 7.5

Strange? I was expecting a bit more of nitrate and ammonia? Its only been 6 days since the rock went in? However it was only out of the water for about 15 minutes. Would this of had an impact. I would expect there would be little die off but not this is tiny.

So am I waiting for the brown diatoms? Whats the next step?

P.s anyone know what my hitch hikers are?

They look like star poyps to me

your stats are fine, expect the ammonia and nitrite to disappear soon and you will get more nitrate - after that has happened do a large water change, 40/50% test again in 24 hours and lets see what you get if below 10 for nitrate you can go get your cuc and yes, you will get diatoms soon

That was actually the first test I've done I've been quite lazy about it but I will start every day from now on! Can't wait for that CUC I'm a big fan of mobile inverts.

What would you suggest as a good CUC for my tank?
What I have in mind is-
1 emerald mithrax crab
4 turbo snails
4 cerith snails
3 nassarius sails
10 hermit crabs

I have 1 nerite snail which hitchiked on my rock too.

Later I would like-
2 cleaner shrimp
1 peppermint shrimp
1 decorator crab

Is this okay?

not sure on any of the above but i like how you've got your rock. looking nice.

I've changed it now but I will get some more pics up of that. I hate seeing hardware so I like to hide it

1 emerald mithrax crab - I would wait until you have enough food
4 turbo snails - yep fine
4 cerith snails - you could have more, unless they are the giants
3 nassarius sails - you need at least 10
10 hermit crabs - far too many, just get four to start with

I have 1 nerite snail which hitchiked on my rock too.

Later I would like-
2 cleaner shrimp - fine, but might annoy you later as they crawl over corals and the corals dont like it
1 peppermint shrimp - fine
1 decorator crab - cool little dudes

Looks to me like you are cycling and no, expect them to raise even further, then ammonia and nitrite to disappear

My Nitrites are the same as my Nitrates - <5. I didn't put them on for some reason.

Can my CUC be broken down into two batches?

Like, 1st batch:

1 emerald mithrax crab - I really like these fellows and I have read that I can give them food substitutes?
4 turbo snails
5 cerith snails
5 nassarius sails
4 Hermit crabs

2nd Batch:

5 nassarius snails
2 hermit crabs
And anything else depending on the situations?
