There is just something about fish. A dog is a dog, and a cat is a cat, but fish are... just different. What do you think it is that makes fish so much more fun, even though you really can't interact with one like you could a dog, cat, bird, etc.?

Simply put it is the FISH that make keeping fish so enjoyable. They don't behave like cats or dogs, but if you wanted that you'd get that. Fish are fish, they are all unique and everyone has a different reason for keeping a particular type over another. So, to keep it as simple as I can it is the individual fish you keep that make it so rewarding.

Well in my house, the tank is so hard to miss, that you have to pay attention to it....
It is also amazing to watch the fish come and interact with you as you feed them. I am trying to teach the rays to get used to me by eating off some tongs.
Not going so well...maybe I need more patience :X

Its completely different . I have two cats that i obviously interact with. But looking into the tank and watching fish is like looking into another world. They all have their own personalities and habits. It's like having your very own soap show in your living room. Better than Emmerdale anyday! Maybe on a par with Eastenders though!!

I think it is really rewarding because it's not just caring for the fish it is caring for a little ecosystem. Plus it is fascinating and calming to watch. It is a challenging but DEFINATELY rewarding hobby! :p

Its the quietest pet , and it doesnt mess your carpet (Unless theres some serious leak problems..yikes) I just look into there, and its so cool to see what you can accomplish, their lives are completely dependant on us. When you heal a sick fish, or just see them quirk up at the sight of a human, it makes you feel something good... Fish are cool, end of story.

They dont smell, dont poo on the carpet, no washing them, dont need walks, dont sniff your crotch, wont scratch or bite you (depending on what u have) and, IMO much much much more interesting (watching them interact with eactother etc etc etc.)

I keep fish as pets for a few reasons. It's cool to keep pets. Fish are quite independant and don,t need your attention except for feeding, even then they can go days without eating!

If i want to go way for 3-4 days, i don't have to worry about feeding them or whatnot, i just leave.

They're fun to watch as someone said, it's like looking in another world! They interact together and it's cool to see them. They each have their own personnalities and are pretty cool.

I just love opening the tank lid and see all the fish swim up, waiting for food!

I've got two cats along with my tanks,

I would say i like the cats and fish the same. The fish are great as they are so relaxing to watch, I can easily forget my troubles by staring at the tank. The cats on the other hand arent so prone to wierd quarks and "issues" they are about a year old and are generally found lounging around where as the fish are ALWAYS busy.

I'm fascinated by all animals and wildlife and I really like having fish cuz you can turn the aquarium into an aquatic garden.

Like they said "its like looking into another world"... a world you've created.... and depends on you.

One thing I enjoy about the aquarium hobby is the perfect balance it creates between challenging and fun. Even though it's a hassle to do water changes every week, I enjoy every minute of it :D how can you not?

Another thing is that the experience of looking into a clean, balanced aquarium is incomparable. What other activity even come close? I could quite literally watch my fish all day.

The idea that I've sucessfully recreated the fishes' natural lives (to some extent) will always fascinate me. Think about domestic cats and birds--their lives in captivity are completely different than what their lives are like in the wild. I enjoy being able to keep a wild animal in a habitat similar to it's natural home.

I love keeping fis for heaps of reasons:

- they're quiet
- you won't find many people allergic to them
- you can care for them AND decorate their home beautifully
- some species really bond with you
- they don't need constant human interaction

and heaps more. :)

From the title Iwas hoping this would be like a Mr T. vs site :(

For me it's the fact you are in control of their entire enviornment, though I love my two cats as well.

Mind you, it is so many thousands of years since dogs and cats were first domesticated that most of th breeds now (unless you go feral) are better suited to home than outdoors.
