I just received my six angelfish yesterday by ups. They were in their bag for about 24 hours. One has one red gill and one other has both affected. Do you think its from an ammonia build up in the bag or is there something else I should be looking at. Today all of the fish are acting fine but the gills are still red. If anyone has any suggestions it would be great to hear from you. Thanks

If they were all in one bag then the chances are very high, probably not the "correct" way to go about it, but i would just make sure you do a few decent water changes, keep the water nice and aerated and just give them a few light snacks for now and maybe some bloodworm/ daphnia just to get them back on track.

Maybe a drop of melafix if you have some although it probabaly isnt much help, would just help if they are a bit sore and open with any slight wound's and stop infection.

overall would probabaly just give a few water changes and hope for the best :)

congrats on your new additions btw :D

The water chemistry in my tank is good they were like that out of the bag. The other four look to be in good shape and no funny behavior from any of them. All of them very hungry. I gave them a very small bite today but they are still resorting to picking at the plants a little. Oh, and their gills are not open or anything just really red. I'm trying to figure out if it's probably ammonia or maybe something else like a parasite.
Still keeping an eye on the water being as I just added six fish though
This is the first time for me keeping Angelfish. I didn't realize what characters they are. Very nosey and checking everything out.

Well its not so much that your water maybe bad, just the fresh clean water will just help the healing of the fish.

I would just give them some blood worm and watch them go crazy. It will perk them right up and just be a bit of a heavy food to settle them too :D

loved watching my old 7" tall angel devour a full frozen cube of bloodworm to himself :D

hope they get well soon

Thanks, I did do a 25% water change this morning. I'll keep an eye on it. They got angelflakes today and a little brine shrimp falkes. Tomorrow will be the worms, I bet they'll love that.

OK cupcake I will as soon as I get my camera back from my niece this weekend. They are pretty
