I bought a female black molly not too long ago and today I noticed it was at the bottom breathing heavily.
Her scales are flared out and she seems to be bigger in the abdomen area. I have no salt with her and there are no signs of any other fish hurting her. She was eating regularly before this. What has happened?

This is known as Dropsy or Kidney Bloat, sadly i dont know what to do about it, maybe someone else does

i've gotten a solution
Use Maracyn Plus
Treats the fish directly, not the water. Contains two broad spectrum antibiotics that are effective against fin and tail rot, popeye, dropsy, ulcers, mouth and body fungus. Active ingredients: Sulfadimidine and Trimethoprim. 2 teaspoons per 10 gallons of marine or freshwater. 8 oz. treats 240 gallons.

not sure if its in the UK if u live there, but it is in USA

I am no expert but I think it is something I encountered few years ago,

appologies if this is just another name for an already mentioned desease,

It could be Scale Protrusion ( Mibrio piscium or bacterium lepidorthosae)

I got this from a book : -

"As soon as scales begin to protrude, treatment should begin. Aureomycin, 250mg per gallon of water helps but is no "sure cure". There is no known absolute remedy. Once this infection has been observed all members of the infected tank should be sterilized by adding 2 1/2 grains of potassium dichlorate and two teaspoonsful of salt to each gallon of water. Change water completely after two weeks"

dunno if this has any relevance or if it helps at all, just thought I would post incase it mite help,

good luck

See how the other fish get on first, maybe wait two weeks, tropical chit chat is good for recommending fish, good luck.
