I am sure I somewhere saw how to work out roughly how many fish can go in your tank.

I am transferring my betta into a new tank. it is rather small. 5 gallon at the most and Id prefer he had some tank mates.

maybe some corys?

will there be enough room?

Its an inch per gallon for small fish

If you want to get a tankmate for a betta in a 5 gallon go for an ADF (African dwarf frog) or shrimp (but the shrimp could become a meal for the betta)

can you keep the dwarf frogs with fish like neons/corys etc? my lfs has some white dwarf frogs(?) at just under €5 and they look so nice. im a little worried my tanks too deep for them though?

I'd second the ADF suggestion - I'm looking at going the same way for my 6G (betta+ADF or a few shrimp).

The inch per gallon rule is reasonable in most cases, but should really be considered as more of a guideline.

It's limited in the sense that it's designed around 'medium' sized fish, in a reasonable sized tank.

In a small tank like yours, you'd also need to take into account activity levels - a fast moving, active fish would need a fair bit of swimming space and therefore wouldn't be suitable for your tank, even if it does fit into the inch per gallon rule.

are there any fish that you could recommend?

I dont really want an ADF. my lfs also have them and they seem a bit demented. i watched one swimming into a corner for a good five minutes. it even had me exhausted.

pygmy corys are a good tankmate. :good:

One thing: If the white frogs you mentioned are albino, they aren't dwarf frogs, unless an albino strain has been recently bred. They're African clawed frogs, which will get several times the size of an ADF, and will eventually eat the betta.

a trio of pgymy cories woukd work well, they're a little delicate though so wait until the tank is 6 months old before getting some..... plenty of tiem to do some research
