Hi all, I have a 40 gallon that I just recently freed up. I want to breed something in there to give to my fish store and for my own fun. I’m open to any suggestions besides live eaters because I’ve had enough of them. Any cichlid besides apistos as I am already breeding them. I can change my ph and hardness as needed as well a temp.

rainbowfish

African Rift Lake cichlids - Peacocks, Electric Yellows, Cyprichromis and Paracyprichromis cichlids.

Saltwater - Clownfish

Might do those as I have a peacock already in one of my other tanks. Are there any Asian oddballs like gobies or some South Americans? I just want to have a variety as I have a weird decision system that makes me happy.

There are Australian and New Guinea gudgeons but they aren't big sellers.
Purple spotted gudgeons (Mogurnda sp) grow to about 5 inches and come from Australia and New Guinea.
Desert Goby (Chlamydogobius eremius) is from Australia and grows to about 3 inches.
Peacock Gudgeons (Tateurndina ocellicauda) are small and from New Guinea.

These fishes can be found in America and Europe. Look for places that have Australian and New Guinea native fishes, or look for the American Rainbowfish Association or the German Rainbowfish Association.

There are also fresh, brackish and marine gobies.

Orange Chromides are a small fish from Asia and interesting but uncommon.

Goodeid fish are a type of livebearer but don't breed as much as common livebearers like guppies and platies.

Pencilfish or killifish.

I have found that peacock gudgeons breed readily in my tank (but I don't try to save the eggs or fry). They just need a cave that you'd think was too small for them.

What about forktail rainbowfish? I think they are really cool!
