This has happened as far as i know, overnight.
I got up this morning and went over to my main fish tank with some female and male guppys in it to give everybody their breakfast and i quickly noticed that one of my young brown female guppys has developed a warped and humped spine making her look like a humpback.
I've heard fish TB and neon tetra desease can do this to a fish, but are there any ways to tell the 2 apart and what simptoms to look for in the fish?
I am worried about her but she's still acting normal despite her appearance, i don't mind having to put her down if she has a realy bad incurable desease- any help is much appreiciated

possible causes of kined spine are

1) Electrical shock. Faulty electrics or lightening strike

2) Use of organophosphates

3) Nutritional imbalance

4) Genetic abnormalities

5) Muscular damage / physical damage

6) Toxins

for it to be TB you need two or more of the following symptoms
loss of appetite
fish remains in seclusion and out of site
rapid breathing (respiration)
eyes appear to be cloudy or "popping out"
fish lies on its side near bottom of aquarium
stomach of fish appears to be sunken
whittish blotches on exterior
degraded and frayed fins

For NTD there needs to be a significant loss of colour. this happens as a result of the parasites eating away at the tissues.

Thanks for the info Wolf, there aern't any faulty electrics and i havn't used any organophosphates or anything else in the tank and all my fish get a pretty good regular diet- the guppys get fed freezdried and frozen rivershrimp, bloodworms, krill and tubifex as well as 2 varietys of algae wafers and cucumber and also occasionally fish flakes and fry foods two times a day.
Apart from her bent back, the only other thing i can see wrong with her is that she looks a bit skinny like she has just given birth to fry(but she hasn't been pregnant) but she doesn't have a realy sunken stomache or anything.
I don't have a spare quarentine tank at the mo as i am still treating my new clown loachs for whitespot so i have put the guppy in a large net suspended in the tank at the mo so at least if she dies the other fish don't pick at her corpse.
How is fish TB passed on? Should i put her down if her symtoms develop into full blown fish TB?

The fish can last for weeks with these symptoms, often allowing for detection and treatment before permanent effects are caused. Although this disease is not very contagious, it is a good idea to remove the fish from the main aquarium into a treatment tank. This disease slowly degrades the health of the fish by depositing small "tubercules" on many of the major internal organs of the fish.

Treatment of fish TB is rather difficult since it effects the internal portions of the fish. The best way to treat it is to prevent it by keeping a balanced diet for you fish, and making sure that the quality of the environment in your aquarium is good. If you are unlucky enough to have to treat TB, the infected fish should be placed in a separate treatment tank. 40 grams per gallon of streptomycin and isoniazid, each, should be added to the treatment tank. Treatment can be increased by adding streptomycin to food. There are several other diseases which can be mistaken for fish TB. The best plan is to be overly careful. Monitor the fish closely, and check for the symptoms listed above. While treatment of this disease is possible, the best plan is to keep the quality of the fish's environment as clean as possible. This will reduce the chance of fish infection with TB, as well as decrease the chance that other bacterial and fungal sicknesses will overcome your fish.

Thanks again for the info wolf, i will try and get hold of some of this "streptomycin" and "isoniazid" for my guppy and see if i can fit in another tank into my appartment for a quarentine tank. I think its posible i may have another fish infected, a platy, as well looking at my tank -_- ...

Tokis do you have any neon tetra's in the tank, plus if so what do they look like, sad to say if she had the hump back and being skinny, it sounds more like fish tb, sorry.

Thanks for the link wilder, yes i do have neons- i just finished checking them up and they all seem pretty bright and healthy, so i guess i do have fish TB...ah well  .

Sorry to hear this. Don't forget to be careful about your own health. You won't get human TB from fish TB, but apparently you can get very nasty bacterial infections on hands etc that come into contact, particularly if you have a cut or anything. treateable by antibiotics but even so not very nice. Try not to stick your hand in there.

Sorry tokis, is there anyway you can strip the tank down.
