Unfortunately, they won't adjust. The ones still alive are just a bit stronger than the ones which died. They will still be suffering in ways we can't see, a month is not very long.

But yes, future fish should all be soft water fish. Angels would fit the bill if the tank was bigger.

Don’t know what else to do with the mollies,Shop closed now indefinitely, I’m thinking along the lines of Tetras Rasbo

Not much I can do with the mollies just hope for the best.Im thinking along the lines of tetras rasbora,Gouramies and may be a Siamese Fighter.

No to the betta (siamese fighting fish) as well. They are not community fish and should be kept alone. And they should not be kept with gouramis. Now if you could squeeze a 25 litre tank for a betta ........ ;)

Thanks for advise,it’s been very helpful.I will keep you posted on how I get on.Nitrate levels are down just needed to test for ammonia

Still got 8 mollies in the tank at the moment they seem happy I’m hoping they may adjust. They have been in the tank for about a month.I was hoping just add soft water fish now and keep it like that.

The mollies cannot adjust, and they will die prematurely, that I can guarantee. Interesting that I just explained this in two other threads. I'll copy over:

The underlying problem with your molly is the low GH and acidic pH. Mollies have evolved over thousands of years to function in moderately hard water; they need the calcium and magnesium in the water (which their kidneys remove as the water passes through) in order to function physiologically, and the metabolism is connected too. They also cannot function well in an acidic pH.

Fish weakened by inappropriate parameters like these have not long to live. It may be a few months, but usually along the way something else impacts them more than it would otherwise, due to their now weakened state, and that may be the direct cause of their early death. So the indirect or underlying cause is the GH and pH.

Thanks for this info very interesting not much I can do just hope for best.I will keep the water soft and look to put tetras and Gouramies in. Thanks again I will post updates on in the future.

Other than 5 Mollies and 1 Gourami died, is there any other fish that died?

You might want to check whether their death are caused by diseases.
By right, Gouramis are quite hardy and they are soft water fish.

Always observe the symptoms before the fish died.
Do let us know if you suspect some diseases that are caused by parasites, bacteria or even virus.

Here are some links on fish diseases:

Thanks for this there is a strong possibility that a virus/bacteria has infected the tank. One molly showed signs of fleck white markings around its lips.Other Mollies and the gourami isolated themselves the gourami seemed to rotate its body.Ive treated the tank with some anti bacterial chemical and as we speak all seems fine. Thanks again I will look on the websites you given me.
