okay, so my mate is giving me his smallest fish tank... not sure what measurements but i know its small. I need to but a filter heater and light. The light i am stuck on as the tank hasn't a proper lid where the light can attach too, he never used a light as he has a bright room. With me its the opposite, i was wondering if a desk lamp would be okay seeing as its only small ? and also would i be able to have natural plants from my other tank ? PLease Please help me, need to find this out before tomorrow :S

Many many thanks

A desk lamp would be ok (make sure no water can splash on it), as long as you keep to the easy, low light plants, like anubias and Java fern; one of the clip on LED lights would be better though.

Depending on the size of the tank, small heaters and filters are easy to come across; most LFS will sell 25 or 50watt heaters. Filters, depends really on what you're intending to stock. If you're only going to have a few small fish and/or shrimps, a little sponge filter run from an air pump would be fine; if the tank is a bit bigger and you're having more than five or six fish, a small internal power filter would be best.

Good afternoon and welcome! :good: I bought a plant growing light fixture that mounts on the wall behind my 10 gallon tanks and it works beautifully. As fluttermoth says, make sure no water can splash on the light. This light also works for the more light demanding plants.
