Fish Tank (no Hood)

The biggest problems with nothing on top of a tank is jumpers & evaporation. Anything in the air will get into the water, a hood doesn't completely seal the tank.

I ran a tank of mine without a cover for some time as I bought a 'luminaire' - I couldn't believe the rate of evaporation. I was adding a couple of pints of water daily. Eventually had to fabricate a condensation cover to slow the rate of evaporation down.

Shame though cos it looked really nice without a cover, just a suspended light above the water.

My suggestion would be to lessen heat loss, evap, jumpers go buy yourself a piece of perspex to fit the top of your tank. Really easy to use, just use a fret saw.

Hope that helps(ask me for any suggestions ive done this for both my tanks, stupid clumsy feet.)
