Fish Swimming At Top Of Tank

sounds like you've got things sorted then, so long as your prepared to exchange herbie if need be that's fine. and a decent schedule fo maintenance and a good filter can allow you to overstock slightly.

I don't think they're all that likely to reproduce, i know neon's rarely breed in community tanks, I assume glowlights are similar so don't worry yourself over that!

so fingers crossed they'll all be fine.

and do come back and see us weather you need help or not!! :D

Thanks, I will definitely keep visiting. :)

The LFS guy said a pet store once paid him $20 for a big algae eater, even if we had to give it up for free I would... for the sake of the fish. As it is I feel bad about the Kermit, the ADF, dying!!

I'm going to double-check with my son and make sure he understands that Herbie could be temporary, he seemed to yesterday. Can't hurt to be 100% sure while we still have time to return Herbie without a problem. Initially we also weren't sure if we would upgrade tanks eventually, and then Herbie would be a better fit. However, I have a feeling he will grow big before we are ready to expand.

And thanks for the reassurance of the fish not multiplying... I was just thinking to myself, "what did we get ourselves into??" :p

Well, it turns out the tetras are a little more active than I thought. Forgot to mention that in the morning, when we turn the tank light on, they all start to gather near the front of the tank. They seem to get excited when they see my son, who feeds them every morning.

Last night I watched them from his doorway, and I could see a few of them zipping around the tank with each other. When I went closer, they shied away and hid behind the plants.

Aaahhh... the mystery is solved!!

yup they know who feeds them! all fish do .... just like men ;)

behaviour sounds pretty normal then so don't worry.

and good on you for getting your son a tank, i think it's a really good way to teach kids a bit of responsibility and respect for life, also they're just so pretty! :D
