Hello,
this week-end i want to get my fish fishes.

What I want to know is (as my lfs is useless) what fish is the best at surviving anything?

i want to get the ultimate survivor fish, id like my first one to be with me for a long time and not go dieing on me.

Thank you dear comrades,

Well as a beginner, im sure I will make an error in something, so I want to get a fish that is most likely to survive that error.

P.S. Congrats on beating England 1-0

Hi and welcome to the forum. If you read throught the pinned topic on the first page TFF FAQ Topics pay special attention to the fishless cycling, this is the way to go.

This way you don't have to look for an indistructable fish and once the cycle is complete you can add more fish at once rather than cycling with fish and adding a couple at a time. What size tank do you have? If you really want to cycle with fish danios are quite hardy but still expect to loose a few.

:hi:

Let me just measure it........

31.5 Inches Length

12 Inches Width

15.5 inches Depth

Thanks, ill have a read through the cycle thing.

well cowboy, thers only one realy hardy fish that i would recomend, ( 2 in fact) thats the zebra danio and the pearl danio, in fact, whilst on the subject of danios any type would danio would do,its gotta be danio danio danio for me! :hey:

:drink: That was a one off, but at least it was a good day, down the pub..

Back to your original question... It's really down to you , whatever fish you choose to keep, you need to make sure that you are giving it/them the best possible living accomodation, foodstuffs & water conditions that befits the species. Then and only then will their lifespan be maximised.

not realy no,its just that i or friends of mine have never had any problems what so ever with danios, other surpossed to be hardy fish ive had problems with, and again friends of mine have had trouble with to. This is why i say danio danio danio all the way!

Ugg, how many times do I have to explane? Fish cycling is as good, or even better than fishless cycling(especially for the excited begginer).
I say this ebcause it is so much more fun to watch you tank cycle - instead of just waiting.
I've cycled all my tanks, very one that I've ever had -with fish cycling.
I've had over 20 "fish cyclers" that I've cycled with, and I've only had 1 (count it-one) death, and that death was because of disease. I've given almost all my cycling fish away, except my 8 white clouds, which I've had difficult finding homes for....

Stop telling poeple that fishless cycling ius better, because it really is just an oppinion. It is not at all a fact.

So much more fun cycling with fish, seeing fish stressed and dying and quite often subsequently riddled with ICH and all sorts of fungus etc. ? Sounds like fun to me....

And how many years of experience are you basing that on ?
Or how many tanks have you cycled successfully without fish loss ? Obviously fishless AND with fish, so that you can personally compare the two methods and give an opinion based on fact ? How can you use one method and discredit another method if you haven't even tried it ?

It's quite simple that fishless cycling far outweighs "cycling with fish" as there is minimal (if any) stress on the fish when introduced into the tank.

In the context of a thread where someone wants a fish that will definitely live, I don't think you could recommend anything but fishless cycling.

Use me as a prime example, I got three fish and did the fishless cycle and two out of three died.
