Just out of interest, where do fish shops get their supplies from?? I know some Marine shops use TMC but i'm after a tropical supplier who stocks supplies such as test kits etc...

If anyone who works/owns an aquatic shop could help me, I would much appreciate it! :good:

You answered your own question -_- . LFS would use a aquatic WHOLESALER
But you want to know this? A wholesaler will not deal with the public you would need a petshop licence in most cases for them to supply you, and many will have a minimum order of between £250 and £500

Most smaller independent retailers with small fish houses will use wholesalers regularly were they can order whatever number of fish they require as long as it is above overall minimum order value.

Larger stores will regularly direct import from countries such as Singapore, China, Malaysia, Brazil, Peru, Czech Republic etc however must commit to larger quantities of each species and have a certain unpredictability as to what will actually arrive. These guys will be able to get hold of many more hard to get hold of species - and will usually pay less than getting from a wholesaler - therefore passing on the savings to you guys.

Larger fish stores IME do not import their own fish, they will buy from a wholesaler or "consolidator"

Also Timmys asking about fish supplys I think more than fish themselves.

Did misread that slightly! Supplies, not fish :/

And yes most will use a consolidator to direct import - purely from a paperwork and ease of clearing customs pov. However most will avoid wholesalers if they can get the same fish direct for less.
