Hiya,

Need some suggestions for tankmates for my current fish.

I currently have 4 neon tetras and a silver shark in an approx 20 gallon tank (70 ish litres). Any ideas on what fish would get on with the current habitants and be suited to my tank??? :/

Thanks

Matt :D

Well both neons and silver sharks are community fish so they're fine to keep with most other species. Obviously avoid large species such as gouramis and cichlids.

One thing tho, is this a newly set up tank? If so it's probably wise to let it finish cycling before adding any new fish.

finsh cycleing before you put extra fish in but both are commuinty fish so its safe with most different kinds of tropical fish :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

What is the silver shark? Is it a bala shark? If so it will grow large and eat your neons. You will need a much larger tank soon.

Is this your shark? It can grow up to 16".

OK, maybe i should have just stated that my tank is fully already fully cycled.

I was thinking about a betta, red tail shark, suckermouth catfish, maybe a few more neon tetras for a start. Obviously i would be introducing them gradually. ANy of those fish majorly conflict with each other? I have been told an angel is out as they neons are there natural prey...is this true?

Matt :p

You should consider exchanging the shark. As I stated it can grow up to 16" and does better in groups. If you keep it in that 20 gal tank, it will not have a very happy life. Considering your tank is only 12.5" wide, the fish will have no way to turn around. If you really want a shark looking fish, try the red-tailed shark.

I never knew they grew that big...

I have 3 in a 4 ft tank...will i need a bigger tank?
Also in my take there is

1 glass fish
2 angel fish
4 guppies
4 neons
2 algae eaters
1 fighting fish

will i need a bigger tank

A 4 ft tank is the minimum for these guys. You should be fine. They will probably snack on the neons when they are big enough to get em in their mouths. The females don't grow as large either.

Thank god for that....i thought i was going to have to buy a 6ft tank for a min.....My other half would of loved that
