Fish Suggestions Please

Hi everyone

Can anybody please suggest a good active top/middle swimming fish that will do well in a pair or a trio, that wont grow bigger than 3inch for my 260l aquarium.

Must be a peaceful fish and get along well with my exsisting Corys, Angelfish, Pearl Gouramis and neon rainbowfish.

The more suggestions the better

you could try one of the danio's they're topdwellers and very active

Thick Lipped Gouramis they are like the dwarf gouramis but a little chunkier and a LOT less prone to the usual bad case of death most dwarf gouramis suffer from!!

Honey gouramis are cute too!! Really tiny when you see them in shops but they bulk out and have great personalities, better than most gouramis!!

Most Rasbora are good mid to top dwelling...

Moustache Danios are brilliant too!!

So long as you dont have anything small like neons... Panchax might do really well!! Like hatchetfish, they are surface dwellers but can eat small fish...

I've been wanting to get some Galaxy Rasboras. They wont get bigger than one inch and are very colorful. Also, glofish are very friendly and mine stay exclusively at the top.

Rasboras, danios and glofish are all very nice fish but they are all small fish that need to be kept in schools of 6 or more.

I already have a school of rainbowfish so I dont really want another school of a different kind.

What im really after is a fish that will grow to a fair size
(3 inch 4 max) and will do well just as a pair or in a trio.

I already have Gouramis, so I guess im looking for something abit different.

I was thinkin sharks maybe. But they all seem to either get too big or there too aggressive.

Anymore ideas?

You could get some giant danios, they get over 2 inch

Red eye tetra, they get above 2 inch and are quite a chunky fish

Most of the 'shark' types as you say are probably too aggressive or get to big but also tend to stay near the bottom or middle.

Il hafta look into the Giant Danio and Red eye Tetra.

Tetras, danios, rainbows etc need to be kept in groups of 5-6. Why the restriction on a pair or trio? There aren't many active mid-top dwellers that can be kept in such small numbers.

Well my current stocking goes as follows

9 Dwarf neon rainbowfish
5 Corys
2 large-ish Pearl gourami and
6 fairly young angelfish
(im waiting for 2 angels to pair, then the other 4 will be rehomed)

I also plan to get 5 or so small algae eating loaches and I also wanted to add one last middle dwelling species. A pair or a trio of some sort.
I dont want another schooling species of fish like danios etc as itll just make my tank look crowded.

Galaxy Rasbora's will more than likely be eaten by the Angel fish once they reach their optimum size.

What are your water conditions please? Blue Rams are demanding fish, preferably your setup should comply with the following parameters:
Acidic PH, Temperature of 28-32oC, it keeps their metabolism at what it should be, and a sandy substrate is generally ideal as Rams are earth eaters, their genus - Mikrogeophagus literally translates to mini earth eater. Their diet should be rich in protein and should be varied.
Rams are likely to pick on Corydoras species also as they inhabit similar areas of the tank.

My PH is 7.4 and temp is kept at 26
Also have gravel but the corys seem to do fine in it.
And I always varie my fishes diet and provide a good source of protein.

The Bolivian Ram would be better species to go for as it is less demanding, and there are some fantastic specimens to be found, obviously the wild caught specimens are going to be of the best quality, but buying tank bred is always better, Bolivian Rams tend to do better at lower temperatures and at a more neutral PH - which your parameters match, as long as the gravel is smooth and isn't rough it should be fine.

The bolivian ram is a nice fish but no where near as striking as the german blue ram.
And now im thinkin about it, I was really after a middle dweller not a bottom dweller.
Maybe i should just continue my search for something else.
