Hi guys

I have a 96litre 24gallon tank cycled and ready to go, i saw a cichlid tank in my LFS and would be very keen to create my own.

Which cichlids should i stock and how many?

Preferably i would like a colourful selection.

Help appreciated..

Thanx

I am not a big fan of cichlids they are aggressive and if you get them you should put them all in the tank at the same time at the same size. But besides that just go by the one inch per gallon rule. I would go with just some tropical community fish you can get some pretty colorful ones. Some are Barbs, rosboras, some livebearers, danios, rainbow fish, and tetras. These are some pretty fish but if you want a cichlid tank then thats what your gonna do! Just my two cents! Good luck!

That standarized 1" per gallon isn't a great way to gauge how many fish to put in a tank, except with maybe tetras, mollies and other fish very similar. What's more important is the ultimate size of the fish at adulthood and the waste it puts out. A freshwater/brackish puffer puts out more waste than a molly, for example. Just wanted to mention this :)
