I have an empty 55 gallon tank and stand (both are about 10 years old). I asked a family member to add a little support to the stand since I thought there was a very minor dip in the middle. He also cut me a piece of wood for the tank to sit on. It's just slightly too small (I think he measured the glass, not the frame of the tank). I can't use the piece of wood, right? It's gonna break his heart that he did something 'wrong', but it's not his house that will have 55 gallons of water on the floor if the seal breaks. I've only been able to attach one picture of one side, the other side looks similar. It's between 1/8th and 1/4th of an inch overhang on each side. Thanks for the help!

If you could provide a picture showing the entire tank, and another of the tank on the stand, it will give us more information.

Does the aquarium have a plastic or metal frame around the glass?

The picture shows the glass part of the tank on the wood and that is fine if there is a frame on the tank.

If the tank does not have a frame around it, and it has never had wood under the base, the bottom sheet of glass will have sagged a bit and if you put it on a piece of wood, the bottom could crack. If you have a piece of polystyrene foam under the base, it will squish down a bit where the bottom of the glass is sagging down and it should be fine.

It's always a good idea to check these things outside on a hard flat surface. then if it leaks or cracks, you water the lawn and not the house. Don't put the tank on the ground and fill it up because the uneven ground can crack the base, Have the tank on the stand outside when you test it.
